Five Things to Know… SEATTLE – During the summer months, King County officials have a safety warning for everyone. Officials are urging the public to use caution on rivers, lakes and the Puget Sound. There were 30 preventable drowning deaths in King County in 2023. That annual estimate has held steady since 2019, when the number of preventable drownings nearly doubled from the previous year. Experts say our region’s rivers and lakes are much colder and more dangerous than they appear.
